For those who have yet to try or hear these, flavor-tripping is the consumption of Miracle Fruit, those relatively unimpressive little red berries pictured here.

They are eaten for one reason alone: for about 45 minutes afterward, bitter and sour foods turn sweet! You’ll never believe how delicious a lemon or some Guinness can be until you’ve tried it during a flavor tripping party.

Miracle Fruit is a completely safe to consume berry, native to West Africa but now used worldwide for it’s interesting effect.

What: Some nibbles and wine beforehand, Miracle Fruit, a spread of flavor tripping foods (lemons, limes, salt & vinegar chips, goat cheese, Tabasco sauce, etc.) at 7:30pm, as well as some red wine vinegar and some Guinness.

It will take place at the Big Red Sun, a beautiful venue that many Austinites may be familiar with from prior events.

There will be an open bar with beer, wine, cocktails, and dinner catered by a fabulous chef with food from local vendors.

Part of ticket proceeds and a raffle will go towards benefitting UpLift Austin, a wonderful local non-profit that works to introduce at-risk youth to green career fields while designing and implementing projects that promote an environmentally sustainable campus.

A Fusion of Essence comes from the fact that you will be taking your senses on a journey that night. Not only is the highlight of the evening going to be the largest Flavor Tripping (to learn more about Flavor Tripping and Miracle Fruit, click here) party we’ve thrown yet, but we will also be unveiling our new line of scented soy candles.

So come join us for music, amazing food, drinks and one of the most unique culinary experiences that you will ever experience, guaranteed!

• Fire roasted peppers stuffed with asiago cheese served with cilantro sour cream

• Tarragon-marinated beef tenderloin crousta’de with micro greens, served with a sweet chili drizzle or wasabi mousse

This is a family friendly event and tickets for children are $10 or free for under 12.

Directions: exit Cesar Chavez on I-35 and head east for 2 blocks. Big Red Sun is on the left hand side between Medina and Waller. You may park in the Terrazas library parking lot across the street.
